"I guess this is the place..." A blonde thirteen-year-old stared at the large building that was obviously the laboratory with the professor that gave out Pokemon to those who wanted to start their Pokemon journey. She stuffed a piece of paper that had the lab's address on it into a side pocket of her bag and took a deep breath, gripping the straps tightly. It was now or never. She had to go in there to get her first Pokemon! As the young teen brushed aside a few strands of her blonde hair away from her eyes, a sudden thought occurred to her: what if the professor didn't give Pokemon to coordinators? She hadn't really mentioned that when she sent in her survey answers. It would be horrible if she was turned away because she wasn't planning on becoming a trainer. Then again, she read that good coordinators had to be good trainers as well, so did she have anything to worry about? No, you don't, Lenora, the girl tried to assure herself, puffing her chest out a bit, which was wrapped up tightly in a beige turtleneck. She tugged at the ends of her brown skirt and boldly walked up to the door, turned the knob, stepped inside, and closed it behind her. The soft click that echoed as she closed the door behind her echoed around the seemingly empty room, and Lenora began to wonder if there was anyone here at all. If not, what would she do? She didn't know when the professor would be back, or if she should stay and wait or go somewhere else. Her heart sunk as she gathered up her voice to call out. "H-hello? Anyone here?"

Before anyone could say "illegal immigrants", a creature swooped down from a book shelf straight at Lenora's face. It was reminiscent of a bat crossed with a flying squirrel, and twice as deadly.
Lenora was lucky the Pokemon, known as a Gligar, missed and hit the wall beside the door. It was not dazed in the slightest (rather it clung to the wall), but one could imagine it was better the poisonous beast had struck the wall rather than the girl's face.
"Lamarr! You naughty thing, you!" came a voice from more inside the lab. A man wearing a white lab coat with thick lensed glasses, balding from age, appeared wielding a regular corn broom. This was none other than the infamous Professor Kleiner, Raeo's prominent researcher.
"How many times must I tell you not to attack visitors?" he told the Gligar firmly, "Honestly! Control yourself, will you?"
The Pokemon looked back at the old man, and stuck its floppy pink tongue out in annoyance.
"Don't you give me that, young lady! You just go back to your perch," Kleiner ordered with a wag of his broom.
For a moment, it seemed as though Lamarr wouldn't listen. But she eventually jumped off of the wall, and glided over to a desk positioned just past the sitting area. She landed upon it, and sat there, sulking.
"Hmph! She can be such a little witch at times..."
The professor turned back to Lenora, now with a sheepish smile upon his wizened face.
"Please excuse Lamarr," he said, "she has an unfortunate face fetish that I seem to be unable to control. Now, let me see..."
He abandoned his broom and picked up a pile of papers from a side-table near the entrance. He briefly flipped through them, eventually pulling out a single sheet.
"February the twenty-eighth already..." he murmured to himself. Then he spoke up and said;
"That would make you Miss Lenora. Is that correct?"

Lenora let out a shriek of fear as the Pokemon came flying towards her. She ducked and covered her head with her hands, bracing herself for the impact. However, it never came. At the sound of a thud, Lenora looked up and turned to the side to see the Pokemon, a Gligar it seemed, clinging to the wall. She quickly began shuffling away from the Pokemon. Lenora jumped as she heard a voice call out from within the lab, and an old man that was obviously the professor came charging through, wielding a broom. As he shouted at the Gligar, she slowly slid over to a corner, staring at the two with wide eyes. She felt her back hit the corner of the room, and she was trapped. The professor had walked off to a different part of the room and was going through some papers, Lenora watching him the whole time while inching back towards the door, hoping to make her escape. However, when he spoke up, she stopped, remembering what she had originally come here for. "Uh...um...y-yes, that's me," she replied, a little quietly, but just loud enough for him to hear. "I-I came for my P-Pokemon."

"Well my dear, you have impecable timing!" Professor Kleiner said with a kindly smile, "Other than nearly getting attacked by Lamarr, of course! Come in, come in."
He walked over to his desk, glancing at the paper every so often. From the desk he grabbed a metallic holder. This he opened, and out of it Kleiner took three spheres. He walked back to Lenora, and showed them to her. The spheres turned out to be PokeBalls;
One was green on the top, with a white bottom.
Another was dark brown on top, with a white bottom.
The third was light brown on the top, with a white bottom.
"Each of these PokeBalls contains one Pokemon," Kleiner explained, "Based on the personality test you submitted, I picked three Pokemon from my large repertoire for you to choose from."
He pressed the buttons on the three balls. White light spilled out, forming into three separate creatures.
From the green ball came a cherry-like creature with two tiny legs, and a green leaf that was attached to another, tinier head. It seemed very happy, and periodically would bounce back and forth.
From the dark brown ball came what appeared to be some sort of top...? But no, it was more than that; it had arms, a "face", and moved rhythmically from side to side.
From the light brown ball came a small furry Pokemon, lying down on the floor. Its eyes were half open, and upon its countenance there was a look of pure sleepy bliss.
"Cherubi, Baltoy, and Slakoth," Kleiner said, naming the Pokemon in order, "These are the Pokemon I've selected for you; a grass-type, a ground and psychic-type, and a normal-type."
"Keep in mind you can only pick one," he added, his tone quite serious, "And after you've absolutely decided, you can't take back your choice. That way it's fair for everyone else."
"Now, go ahead and choose."

Lenora stared at the three Pokemon with awe, unable to believe that one of them was about to become her partner...and she was the one picking it! That seemed just so...reversed! She stared at the three Pokemon. All three were good in their own way, but she specifically needed a Pokemon that would be good for contests. Hmm...Slakoth's ability would make it difficult to pull off combinations, which were a key part of contests, so that wasn't a good choice. That left Baltoy and Cherubi. Baltoy was a psychic type, which had a lot of pluses when it came to contests, but most of its moves were based more on power than anything attractive. Cherubi, however, was a grass type, one of the best types to use during contests, or at least in Lenora's opinion. Plus, if she remembered correctly, it could learn moves like Magical Leaf later on down the line, which was a definite plus. The choice was obvious. "I'll take Cherubi," the blonde said, picking up the cherry-like Pokemon.

"Cherubi? Excellent choice!" Kleiner remarked. He returned Baltoy and Slakoth to their respective PokeBalls, which he placed back on his desk.
"Cherubi is a very jolly Pokemon, and as you can already see it looks like a fruit. One interesting thing that can be said is that its second head will begin to wilt when it is close to evolving! Truly remarkable!"
"Your Cherubi also happens to be female," Kleiner continued, "which can be considered lucky. I find male Cherubi quite odd myself..."
He passed Lenora the green PokeBall, and also gave to her something that looked like a red metallic pocket-book.
"Take this with you too," he told her, "It's a PokeDex; it automatically records any Pokemon when you face them while holding it. It's a pocket encyclopedia, essentially."
"Two more things..." Kleiner walked over to his desk, and grabbed a small bag. He passed it to Lenora.
"Five regular PokeBalls, and a potion. Needed by any new trainer, for catching and healing Pokemon!"
The Cherubi had been skipping about during the entire time without a care in the world. Curiously enough, after Kleiner was finished, she wandered over to Lenora and gazed up at her sweetly.
CHERUBI Level 5 Female KNOWN MOVES; -Tackle
((Feel free to take control of Cherubi after this post.))

Lenora stared down at the Pokemon looking up at her, her eyes sparkling as if she couldn't believe that she had her very own Pokemon now. Gingerly, the thirteen-year-old knelt down and scooped the cherry-like Pokemon up into her arms. It squirmed a bit, obviously wanting to bounce around a little more, but quieted back down when Lenora stroked its larger head gingerly as the professor told her more about the Pokemon. Of course, she already knew this stuff (she had studied it before setting off), but didn't want to be rude and interrupt, so instead she'd nod every now and then to show she was listening while keeping her eyes on the Pokemon she was petting, who was starting to close its eyes and snuggle against her soft shirt. When it had fallen asleep, Lenora took it's Poke Ball and returned it. The professor also handed her other items as well: a Pokedex, which she was quite fascinated with, and kept turning it over in her hands to look at it closer, and a bag with a potion and five Poke Balls. She put both of these in her pack, which still had plenty of room left over, and zipped it back up before turning to the professor again. "Um...thank you, sir!" she spoke up, fiddling with one of her straps. "So, um...I guess I'll be going now." With that last sentence, she slowly made her way for the door in case he had something else he wanted to say, but when she heard nothing of the sort from him, she opened the door and stepped outside: the first official step of her Pokemon Journey.
