Lights come up on Arena 1, a slick, clean Arena surrounded by cheering and screaming spectators. There's not an empty seat in the house. They wave signs and giant foam fingers in the air to show their excitement. Two doors open on the East and West sides of the Arena. The door on the East opens to allow Clover to step into her position on the stage and the door on the West does the same for Niji. And the doors open and the cheers incredibly intensify, the field official dressed in classic black and white step into his own position on the field and holds up two flags, one blue and one red. As the flags swish through the air, the crowd miraculously grows silent. After the hush has fallen over the spectators, a rich, baritone voice echos through the Arena. "Would the two participants please take their place on the Arena." The crowd goes wild.

Clover stepped out onto the edge of the field, her eyes wide, but determined. She didn't expect so many spectators, the contests at home were small, never maxing out to more then a few dozen people. She swallowed her doubts and flashed the girl across the arena a nervous smile, before brushing off some invisible dirt from her clothes. Today she was dressed as nicely as the occasion allowed, proudly wearing a light green kimono with, you guessed it, clover patterns. Brushing a stray strand of her short hair out of her face, she reached into her left sleeve and pulled out a small Pokéball. Tapping it once, it expanded, and she gave it a small kiss before tapping it again. "Good luck Ning!" She cried as a bright green Pokémon appeared in a blinding flash of light. The Electrike bristled his fur and let out a howl as dogs often do.

Niji gnawed at the end of her thumb nail as she stared at the closed door, her heart pounding madly. She could hear the crowd screaming madly from behind the door that separated her from the arena, where everyone there could see her. That thought wasn't very reassuring. What if she tripped on her way to take her spot? What if she lost utterly to the trainer she was battling? Her Pokemon weren't that strong, after all. Were they going to air this on TV? Oh shit! No, it'll be fine, the girl told herself, taking a deep breath to calm her nerves. Just calm down. Didn't you enter this to have fun, anyway? That was right. She was the one who suggested they sign up for the tournament. The eighteen-year-old figured it'd be a fun experience, so she dragged Shin along as well. Then again, Shin's Pokemon were pretty strong. Hers, however... That shouldn't matter! Even if she lost spectacularly, she could still say she tried, right? If her opponent was someone far stronger than her, then so be it! Then maybe the battle would be interesting, instead of some quick, boring, one-hit KO win. Despite the pep talk Niji had given herself, the Warrior still jumped when the door in front of her opened, causing the already loud cheering to amplify. However, instead of feeling even more nervous, Niji could feel her adrenaline rush along with the crowd's cheering. She couldn't help but let a grin spread across her face as she was called forward, and rushed to her place on the large arena. Her opponent looked to be a few years older than her, which probably meant that her Pokemon could be fairly strong. However, when the older woman sent out an Electrike, Niji let out a small sigh of relief. So they were probably about even. "Alrighty then!" Niji called out, plucking a ball from her belt and throwing it onto the field. "Taiyou, you're up first!" The ball busted open in midair, spilling light onto the ground, which began to take the shape of what appeared to be a large feline with a Y-shaped tail. As the light faded, you could see that the feline had short, lavender-colored fur, aside from two large tufts sticking out on either side of its head, and a round ruby sitting on its forehead. Violet eyes stared its opponent down, awaiting its attack calmly.

Clover took a shuttering breath, and as she exhaled, all her previous misconceptions were forgotten. The crowd didn't matter now, and became nothing more then background noise. "Ning!" Clover shouted to the nervous looking green dog. "Let's go! Use Quick Attack!" With a surge of speed, the Electrike raced forward; he aimed to practically collide head-on with the Espeon, providing the feline didn't move. But neither trainer nor Pokémon were very experienced, and attacking a real Pokémon is a lot different from attacking a simple target.

So, the trainer was going to start with a head-on attack. (Head-On, apply directly to the forehe-- *shot'd multiple times*) By using Quick Attack, her Electrike could strike first, that is, if it hit. The Pokemon looked about evenly matched, so attempting a dodge might not work. Not having a lot of time to mull it over, Niji shouted the first order that came to her mind: "Taiyou, try to stop it with Confusion!" The feline arched its back and let out a hiss, its short furl bristling and it's split tail lashing the ground. Sure, it may not be that strong in comparison to other Pokemon, but that didn't mean it couldn't be vicious in a battle. The ruby on it's forehead glinted in the bright lights as it tilted its head toward the advancing Pokemon. It began to glow as the Espeon waited for the canine to come close enough before unleashing the psychic attack.

The Electrike kept charging toward the Espeon, then started to slow, and rather ungracefully trip over his own feet. Hitting the ground painfully, Ning looking around in confusion, as if he suddenly forgot what he was doing, and why he was here. "Ning, come back and howl!" Clover cried, stamping her foot to get his attention. He sprung up and raced back toward his trainer, howling to more or less boost his ego (and raise his attack stat ). "We have to be careful, it's a physic type I think," Clover commented to the panting dog.

"Good job, Taiyou," Niji prasied, smiling. Taiyou flicked her tail to show she had heard her, but kept her eyes trained on the Electrike as it howled and raced back to its trainer. "Try Confusion again!" The Espeon's tail lashed once more as she raised her head up higher, charging up her attack. Instead of letting it loose quickly as she had done before, she waited a bit longer, wanting to make sure it was strong enough for her to shoot across the field and hit the canine correctly. Once the attack was at the desired power, the psychic type jerked its head slightly and shot the attack towards the foe, watching it carefully in case she had to follow up with another attack immediately.

As Ning's howl slowed, it was suddenly brought back to life as a cry of sudden pain. He started rubbing his head on the ground, trying to shake off the sudden mental anguish. Clover's hands flew to her mouth in shock. There was hardly a scratch on him, but the Electrike was so close to fainting already she was on the verge of tears. The second round of confusion left Ning panting heavily, and he turned to face his opponent with a weak growl. "Spark, use spark!" Clover cried, and with another surge of speed the Electrike rushed at the Espeon, this time his fur crackling dangerously with electricity.

Niji rubbed her hands together excitedly. Taiyou didn't even have a scratch on her, and the opponent's Pokemon definitely looked like it was getting weaker. She lucked out this time, getting to face someone that was close to her level. The Electrike didn't waste any time in attacking, and was already charging forward with a Spark. She didn't want to use up Confusion too much in one turn, so instead, she decided to meet the attack head on. (*shot'd before she can say anything*) "Alright, Taiyou, use Quick Attack!" Niji ordered. Her Espeon immediately obeyed, thrusting herself forwards with her hind legs and rushing to meet the electric type at blinding speed. She braced herself for the attack, ready to take on the full force of the canine's electricity.

Ning collided with Taiyou, and the force of the two high-speed blows sent the puppy flying back. He laid still on the ground, his breath coming in shallow gasps. Clearly he no longer was in any condition to battle anymore. Clover fought back the urge to rush to her beloved Pokémon's side and make sure he was okay. She didn't want to disqualify herself by trampling through the field. She glanced at the official, hopping he could call the match so Ning could get a rest. Anyone could see the dog was in serious pain.

The official on the sides, watching with all-seeing eyes, saw the Electrike hit the ground after that attack. It was obvious from its condition and from its trainer's apparent need to rush to its aid that this pokemon was out. He raised the red flag over his head. The giant screen above the field held both opponents names with their picture underneath and three images of poke balls under that with one already blacked out under Niji's. One of the poke balls under Clover's picture blacked out, leaving behind its silhouette. The Electrike was out.

"Huh?" Niji leaned forward, eying the Electrike as it hit the ground. Was it out already? Damn that was faster than she had expected. Taiyou was a lot stronger than she had originally thought. A wide grin spread on the Warrior's face. One down, two to go. Now both of them had the same number of Pokemon left. She wondered who the next one was. Nevertheless, she planned on keeping Taiyou out until she was unable to battle anymore. "Alrighty, who's next?" the girl said, not really to anyone in particular. Of course, she could always read that other girl's mind, but that would ruin the surprise. Plus, such a distance could put a dent in her energy, and she still had more rounds to go if she happened to win.

Clover held out a Pokéball, and Ning was sucked back inside in a flash of blue light. She let out a small sigh of exasperation, then tucked the Pokéball into the right sleeve of her kimono. Sure, she lost with Ning, but her other two were a bit stronger then he was. With a smile, she pulled another red and white sphere from the left sleeve of her get-up and tossed it in the air. "Let's show her what we're made of Gret!" The Pokéball opened as it bounced off the ground, and out bounced a Growlithe. Gret reared up on her hind legs and gave a leap of excitement before dropping on all fours and wagging her tail happily. She didn't seemed phased by the massive crowd in the slightest, instead the Growlithe looked around with a goofy smile, with her tongue hanging out from the side of her mouth. Clover gridded her teeth. Hopefully Gret would be able to stop that crazy-physic-cat. She made a mental run down of her Growlithe's move set. "Odor Sleuth, Ember, Flame-Wheel and Bite," she mumbled under her breath. Bite was a dark-type move, right? It should help her against this ugly purple kitty.
