Sniffing warily, a small Pichu hopped up the broken and eroded stairs that lead to a menacing tower. More then a lot of paws worth of small rodent-like Pokémon and (consequently) several meowths occupied the lower levers of the deteriorating structure. The normal types stayed close to the ground levels, never daring to try and climb higher then a few levels; those that did were never seen again. Whether the rumored ghost types that lived above did away with the lost souls, or something even more sinister was getting them, it wasn't uncommon for an adventurous Pokémon to suddenly disappear. The community was both frightful of and thankful for the tower they lived in. The pichu jumped up and sat on a short, broken down pillar. Sleepily, it scratched it's ear with it's back leg, and sighed softly. With the exhale, in a flash of light and the blink of an eye, the mew took his true form, still sitting in the same, calm position.

“Thank goodness I was able to get away from the witch,” a lone Pikachu sighed. She, however, had no clue where she was at the moment. All she could remember was running, running, running. The yellow mammal collapsed in front of what appeared to be a large pile of rubble.
The mouse’s tail disappeared beneath her back as she rolled over. Beady black irises blinked up at the sky; there was definitely going to be a storm. Red cheeks sparked with anticipation, but Akarui knew that she needed some kind of shelter from the biting rain. Raeo, to her, had the harshest storms of all the regions. The falling drops sliced into Pokémon’s skin, and she SWORE she saw a burn on one of her former companions.
Akarui also had a feeling that it was Blood Raven responsible for the pseudo-acid rain, but that was a story for another time. The Pikachu decided to get off of her sorry butt and waltz into the dilapidated building.
“Alo? Is there anyone here?”

"More rain?" the mew asked himself, turning his head to one side. The wind was starting to pick up, yes; it did seem like a storm was rolling in. Sleepily the mew floated toward a smashed window, where ivy clung to the wall and invaded the structure. Just then, someone called out from inside. Delighted by the idea of a new friend, the mew drifted into the tower, it's face bright with happiness. The static in the air from the approaching storm caused the pink kitten to involuntarily transform into a Pichu once more, and it landed on the ground with a shocked squeak. "Hellwo?" he called, rubbing his sore head.

When the wind started to howl, the Pikachu began to shiver. One thing she actually missed was that wonderful Pokéball. It had kept her warm and safe from the harshness of her original habitat. Akarui guessed that this creepy place would have to serve as a suitable resting area.
She ‘eeped’ when a shocked squeak rippled through the air. Akarui’s beady black irises glanced around a nearby corner to see her pre-evolution. “Hi! Are you okay? I heard the sound from outside… Sounds like you got hurt.” The Pikachu adjusted the red flower behind her left ear before continuing. “By the way, my name’s Akarui. A pleasure to make your acquaintance! I hope you don’t mind if I stay here for a bit. The storms here are horrible.”

"I'm a'kay, I'm a'kay" the Pichu commented, hopping up to Akarui. He wagged his short tail, which in turn made his entire lower half wiggle in excitement. "You can stay here! It feels like the ouch-rain might be coming anyway." A distant rumble of thunder caused his ear to twitch. He paused with his mouth half open, as if the small mouse was going to say something and got distracted. "Your flower's pretty!" he finally burst out, and started giggling. He sat up in an attempt to stand a bit taller.

Akarui didn’t suppress the giggle that burst out of her. This particular Pichu was just too cute! It had been quite some time since she saw one last, and that was probably when she was with her previous trainer. Her ears drooped as she thought of the kind coordinator who had raised her. To add to her somber mood, the hyper mouse next to her inquired about her flower.
“Have you ever heard of Amaranths? They’re the flowers that are rumored never to die. I dunno if that’s true or not, but my previous trainer gave this to me a loooong time ago. The blossom still looks fresh, don’t you think?” Akarui explained, giving her own ear a wiggle. She padded farther inside, because she knew if there was wind, the rain would fall near the entrance.
“Now it’s my turn to ask a question! Why are you living in such a dreary place like this? The building and its aura are complete opposites of your personality.”

"Aw, I think this place is nice!" the Pichu allowed a small shiver of delight to pass through his fur. "Sure, it's kinda dark, but that's okay. I could make it bright if I needed too. . ." He trailed off for a second, and glanced around in the gloom. He turned quickly at the sound of tiny feet scurrying past, then suddenly shouted out. "Hey!" he called, his fur sparking; he approached a ratatta with a small growl. "That's mine!" The small purple rat chattered something that was likely a series of curse words before dropping the berry it was carrying and disappeared deeper into the building. With a small huff he picked up the berry in his mouth and hopped back to Akarui. "Sorry, sorry," he said dropping the berry at her feet. "Do you like these? I think they are called our-run berries, or something like that. They heal belly aches good."

Pained, nasally whines came from a stumbling form that constantly tripped over its own feet, what seemed to be paws sinking down into the muddy ground with wet squelches looking for any sort of solid ground. The raindrops that fell were like hot knives through butter and they sliced into the matted fur to sizzle and hiss at the flesh. The creature could have been distinguished as an Umbreon- if not for the red rings(which honestly looked like blood, they way they had the appearance of melting), the ghastly white eyes, and the most off-putting, chilling feature of all... The patches of burnt skin nearly hanging off the body in some places. It was as if the thing had been beaten senseless and then burned alive. The blood that seeped from the wounds was not red, but purple, and it almost looked as if there was minuscule rows of binary traveling across the contours of its shape. Missingno. gave an anguished, electronic howl and stumbled through the mud, heading for a tower it presumed would serve as shelter. It may have been a computer virus but even it couldn't find a way around the rain. It tried taking on the form of a flying Pokémon but the wind, combined with the rain, grounded it. It tried burrowing, but the water that seeped down into the soil hurt even worse. So it settled on just walking under the hideous guise of an Umbreon. Pain existed for it, but death didn't. So if it were to collapse before reaching shelter, it would just sit there and let the rain eat it alive until it went away, no matter where it fell. Then it would get up and change forms like nothing happened. Thankfully, that wouldn't happen. The virus reveled at the prospect of solid ground and stumbled onto the dusty floor of the old tower, before choosing to fall over on its side. Uncaring of the other carbon-based lifeforms nearby. A brief, split second change in its appearance could have been missed if one blinked: Like a glitchy old computer, its entire appearance warped and flickered, but then right back to normal, binary faintly scrolling over its body and then fading away.

The Pichu turned abruptly as the Umbreon came stumbling in through the lopsided door. Nervously he took a quick step back and made a small growling noise. "Who are you?" After a few seconds of silence, the Pichu hopped over toward the injured Pokémon. He sniffed it nervously, then let out a soft sigh. "The ouch rain got him," he said, turning toward Akarui. Outside the thunder roared, and the Pichu crouched down reflexively.
