Lights come up on Arena 2, a slick, clean Arena surrounded by cheering and screaming spectators. There's not an empty seat in the house. They wave signs and giant foam fingers in the air to show their excitement. Two doors open on the East and West sides of the Arena. The door on the East opens to allow Shin to step into her position on the stage and the door on the West does the same for Jaden. And the doors open and the cheers incredibly intensify, the field official dressed in classic black and white step into his own position on the field and holds up two flags, one blue and one red. As the flags swish through the air, the crowd miraculously grows silent. After the hush has fallen over the spectators, a rich, baritone voice echos through the Arena. "Would the two participants please take their place on the Arena." The crowd goes wild.

He could hear the cheering, the screaming, the absolutely uncivilized banter. And he loved it. He'd changed out of his normal outfit, into a more appropriate getup. (Appropriate to him- his traveling clothes would have looked so bad on him for this situation.) He looked everything one would expect of a guy like him and more. He waited almost impatiently for the doors to open, so that he could be in the spotlight, where he belonged. He wasn't a coordinator, but the thrill of being the center of attention, the only thing people cared about, it drove him wild. The moment those doors opened up and let light through into the dimly lit room, Jaden lifted his chin.
He waited for the announcer's voice to break the silence, clutched a Pokeball firmly in his hand, and when the time came, he strutted arrogantly onto the field, a grin plastered to his face as he looked over all the spectators. He took his place on the west side of the arena and took stance, a shoulder slightly raised, a hand stuck to his hip, and a challenging, knowing smirk matching a daring gleam in his eyes. He chuckled to himself, delighted to be here, and took one look over his opponent. Oh, /this/ would be good. He provocatively slipped a hand behind his head and flipped his hair to the side, and in the same motion, slung the Pokeball out onto the field.
Sebastien burst through and soared as though he's taken a flying leap from within the capsule, and landed just as gracefully, his feline form held with obvious dignity. To show he wasn't worried in the slightest, he took a paw and licked the back of it, moving to clean off his ear. His tail flicked side to side and he meowed, almost seeming identical to Jaden in attitude. Yelling and cheering battered his ears as they did to Jaden's, but his trainer took more delight in the sensation. Over the crowd's noise, he called out to Shin, "Are you going to underestimate me, too?" and then he laughed, getting ready to wipe the arena floors with the Hero.

If Shin was nervous at all behind those doors, you wouldn't be able to tell. He had hidden all of it behind a mask of determination, though truthfully, he was extremely apprehensive. The audience out there must've been huge by the uproar they were making, and a tournament this big would no doubt be aired on television throughout the region at the very least. Sure, he was a strong trainer -- he'd been battling for years and years now -- but he knew better than to think he was the best. He really didn't want to enter the tournament, but Niji talked him into it, as she usually did. Why he even went along with half her ideas, he didn't know, though the truth was probably because he knew she'd do it, and he didn't want her to do something stupid and reckless by herself. Then again, a tournament didn't exactly fall into either category. Shin's attention snapped back to the matter at hand as the doors opened, pouring tons of light and sound suddenly into the little space he had to wait in. His eyes squinted at the sudden bright lights as his pupils dilated. The arena looked like a pretty normal one for a basic battle. When he was called forward, the Hero casually walked to his place and stood there, eying down the other male. Or female. Wait. He squinted. No, male. Definitely male. At least, he thought so. The twenty-year-old shook his head to clear his thoughts and watched as the opposing trainer sent out his Pokemon. He seemed rather cocky, as did his Delcatty. However, Shin wasn't about to underestimate the power of the feline; he'd had far too much experience to do something as silly as that. It would be better to play it safe for now. "Alright, then I choose Machamp!" the male shouted, plucking a ball from his belt and throwing it forward, releasing a large, rather muscular four-armed Pokemon, who immediately began flexing his muscles, showing off to the large crowd. "Focus, Machamp!" At his trainer's call, the fighting type turned his attention to the Delcatty before him, chuckling to himself. Was this puny little thing supposed to be threatening? Machamp brought all four hands in front of him and crackled his knuckles before motioning for the feline to come at him with its attack.

At the sight of the large brute, Jaden quickly simulated possible outcomes. He couldn't help but stereotype and assume the Machamp was a thick-headed arrogant fool, and while Jaden was arrogant, he was neither foolish or thick-headed. Right now, they had the brains. Maybe not the crowd's support yet, but that was going to change very quickly. He changed stances, and actually looked like he was going to take this seriously. Ha- yeah, right.
"Start off with a rolling Swift, and be mindful of a counterattack," he ordered smoothly, everything said with a calculating edge. Sebastien had no cover, no means of a surprise attack, but his small size and lithe build would be perfect for causing confusion. He was confident in both of their abilities, and he watched carefully as Sebastien braced, then took off running, leaping high, nearly crossing the center of the field, and then folding his body in two, instantly collapsing into a rolling ball of fur. His tail glowed brightly, then burst, and the Delcatty was then a spinning wheel of bright, yellow stars, making contact with ground and speeding off at a fast rate to hopefully collide with the Machamp.
Jaden had thought he had a plan for everything that might of happened, a plan B for if the Machamp grabbed Sebastien, dodged, or even diverted his route. He had it all under his control, even if Shin didn't realize it.

That was certainly interesting. Usually, when a Pokemon used Swift, they just shot stars from a distance, but by turning it into a physical attack, it would certainly make it stronger. However, Swift was still a normal type move, and wouldn't be that effective against a fight type like Machamp. Nevertheless, Shin suspected that this trainer had something up his sleeve to directly attack like that. "Machamp! Stop it with Close Combat!" The Machamp spread its feet apart and held all four arms out in front of it, bracing itself for the attack. Two were open, ready to catch the feline and hold it for as long as it could, while the other two were balled into fists, ready to pummel it once it was caught. If this worked as planned, then the attack would surely get the opponent somewhere relatively close to fainting, if not completely. However, Shin didn't expect it to be so easy, and kept his eyes trained on the two Pokemon, ready to make a command in a flash if something went wrong.

Perfect. Jaden suddenly gave a dark smirk and he raised his voice for Sebastien to hear: "Quick! Copycat!" And that small instant before the Delcatty would have fallen into a Close Combat trap, he uncoiled and at the bottom of the roll, hinds legs pressed flat to the ground. Sebastien then pressed off and the stars around him burst away in all directions as he flew from the heart of the explosion, tossing a barrages of furious and powered-up swipes at the Machamp in his own Close Combat, aiming for the neck and face.
Jaden pressed his hands to his hips and laughed, hearing all sorts of reactions to the sudden change in attack. He tucked a strand of hair behind his ear and smirked, bathing in the near-deafening cheering, applause, and everything else. This was where he belonged. This was going perfectly. Ebony and Ivory told him once he should consider taking up Coordinating, but where was the fun in that? It was meant to be a goodhearted and friendly sport. Jaden didn't do goodhearted or friendly sports. He was in this for the fame and recognition, and he always would be.

"Shit!" Shin couldn't help but curse at the sudden change in attack, and so quickly as well! Although he hated to admit it, that damn feline was a lot speedier than he had anticipated, but now wasn't the time to think about that. The first hit had already landed on Machamp, and if Shin wanted to win this battle, he had to act quickly. "Counter it with your own Close Combat!" he shouted quickly, and the fighting type was quick to obey. He tried blocking as many attacks as he could as well as dealing as many of his own, but still some went through to hit him as well. Shin gritted his teeth as he watched. How could he be so stupid?! He should've known right off the bat that this trainer would've thought of something to counter it with. He was in a tight spot, and he hoped Machamp would be strong enough to get the both of them out of it.

Was he really that stupid? Jaden raised an elegant eyebrow and watched as Sebastien was hit once, twice, a few more times, and then he called out again: "Copycat again! Go for the legs, get him on the ground!" Sebastien broke away from the punches, twisting his feline body and darting forward once more, using that uncanny speed and flexibility cats had to start weaving around the Machamp's legs, tail thrashing at the backs of his knees, paws smacking and scratching at shins and ankles. Jaden asked him to get the Machamp on the ground. Right now, he was only being a nuisance to the Pokemon, trying to use fighting against fighting. So he was going to improvise. He curled around the brute's leg and then aimed a tail-punch right where he knew it would hurt. He was in enough pain himself, not exactly well defended against the punches, but this was his version to taking the easy- and hilarious- way out.

Shin visibly winced as the attack found its mark. Machamp's jaw hung down in a silent scream of agony as he toppled over onto the ground. The crowd erupted into laughter, and Shin could also hear people muttering, "That's gotta hurt..." He also got the feeling that somewhere in a place called Kentucky, there was a fifteen-year-old girl laughing her ass off as she typed this. (*shiftyeys* ... *gigglesnort*) "M-Machamp! Can you get up?" the male called out worriedly, but his Pokemon didn't respond. He was certainly glad he wasn't in his Machamp's place right now. The Hero shuddered slightly at the thought.

Oh God. Did Sebastien really just do that? Jaden's expression bordered on hysterics before he folded in on himself, unable to keep from laughing. Sebastien had darted away panting, fur on end and mussed a bit with some bruises underneath, but he held stance, watching the Machamp carefully but still with the humor dancing in his eyes. Jaden managed to straighten again, breathing, "Oh, that's rich!" as he did. But now, to take advantage of the situation.
"Enough of this foolish banter! Rolling Swift, as fast as you can!" Jaden threw his hand out, deeming this the finishing blow. Sebastien meowed and took off running, leaped into a roll, then turned into another starry wheel of sparkly death. Jaden smiled, the cheering picked up, mixed with people who were still laughing. He took a proud, arrogant stance and encouraged the audience to keep on cheering, but he kept his eyes on Sebastien. There was still the minuscule chance the Machamp could react, but he highly doubted it.

Shin covered his face with one hand, shielding his eyes for a bit and letting out a small groan. This was extremely embarrassing. Not to mention that if Machamp couldn't even get up anytime soon, they'd lose the match for sure. The Hero gritted his teeth in frustration. He wasn't about to let that happen! Machamp probably wasn't able to stand, but maybe, just maybe... "Machamp, use Bullet Punch!" Machamp lifted his face from the ground just in time to see the rolling Swift coming straight for him. He lifted one arm, balled his hand into a tight fist, pulled it back, and then punched that damn feline as hard as he could.

Jaden hadn't anticipated the Machamp knowing a move like Bullet Punch. He hissed a few words in anger at himself, since he and Sebastien both knew that attack was too fast to do anything about it. He watched in dismay as Sebastien was struck, sending the Delcatty flying through the air. He came to a sliding halt, just barely able to stagger to his feet. He was quite near to Jaden, and while the effeminate trainer didn't think victory would be with them for this one, he had one last trick up his sleeve.
"Faint Attack," he whispered, and watched as the Delcatty made the slow, stumbling trek across the field, panting. It took several moments, and the audience's noise dropped noticeably, wondering why the Delcatty was even bothering. Sebastien finally came to standing a few feet in front of the Machamp, with teeth bared, looking as though he were about to pounce, and then fell. Please work, please work, Jaden prayed, his features etched with a masked-in-concentration desperation.
Suddenly, Sebastien's eyes flew wide, and at a last attempt to win, he sprang from the ground and flipped, aiming the sucker punch for the Machamp's face. There was a uproar within the crowd at the surprise attack, and Jaden's arrogance returned to him.

The official on the field watched as the Delcatty was sent flying backwards. Yeah, that was gonna end it. He gripped his red flag, waiting for the Delcatty to fall so he could raise it and call it out. But no. The Delcatty had gotten up and was heading back. He joined the stunned crowd. Why was this pokemon doing this. And then he watched the Delcatty fall. He raised the red flag up, but as it was about to go above his eyes, the Delcatty made his attack. The startled official quickly pulled the red flag down and shot the blue flag up before the officials could change anything on the screen.

Why can't that damn thing just stay down?! the Hero growled to himself as the feline approached Machamp once more. It looked like it was about ready to collapse, but it was still going at it. He opened his mouth, ready to call out the order for the final blow when the Delcatty fell to the ground. "What?" Shin blinked, surprised at first at how easily it had gone down. Machamp, who had pushed himself off the ground and had all four arms raised, ready to for an attack, also let its guard down, lowering the arms as he too blinked in surprise. Neither of them were ready when the cat jumped back up and landed another hit. "Quick!" the trainer immediately called out as his Pokemon staggered backwards a couple steps from the sudden hit. "Use Bullet Punch once more!"

The blow was a success, both Trainer and Pokémon had mistakenly allowed their guards to drop. This person was certainly new to the city, because anyone in the crowd who had once before battled or seen Jaden battle would have known that one should never lower their guard on Jaden, regardless of his Pokémon's condition. It was a golden rule of sorts. Sebastien was on his last limb, and if he and Jaden could have heard each others' thoughts, they would have both been thinking the same thing:
Swift.
Before Shin had even finished calling out his desired attack, Jaden called out his, and Sebastien, still lingering in the air after the impact, twisted with his last bit of strength and launched a star-trailing tail into the glowing fist with all the force his weakened feline body could muster. The ill combination instantly reacted and produced an explosion that engulfed a section of the field in thick, rolling smoke. It lingered for several painful moments but Jaden's countenance didn't waver at all, the determined expression clearly stating that he knew his Delcatty had fallen and that he was waiting for the opponent to reappear.
The smoke began to clear, and as expected, Sebastien was on his side, defeated. The rest of it started to lift away and Jaden watched it intently, catching a glimpse...
